Our biodiversity reporting consulting project has been a valuable experience for me, highlighting the importance of biodiversity reporting worldwide is increasingly more critical. However, we have encountered several challenges, particularly with team dynamics, project planning, and time management. Team dynamics are vital to the success of any project. In our case, we experienced uneven participation from team members. Some members invested more time in the project than others, making it challenging to ensure everyone contributed equally. This imbalance made meeting our project objectives within the set timeline difficult.

Our client is passionate about our project, which motivates us to do our best. However, we could have set up a more precise project plan to manage our time effectively. In addition, as we near the end of the semester, some members have prioritized other tasks over this project. Looking back, I recommend that future teams set clear expectations, establish internal deadlines, and reflect on work before meeting with the client. We often ended up meeting just before the client meeting, leaving little time to adjust our approach. By setting internal deadlines, we would have had more time to review and adapt our work before presenting it to the client.

Additionally, I noticed that half of our team struggled to prioritize this project in a way that we expected from a graduate-level class. I recommend that professors engage more with students to hold them accountable for their internal deliverables. While we expect professionalism from graduate students, some may not prioritize group projects. Thus, professors need to provide guidance and support to ensure that all team members contribute equally.

This consulting project was an excellent opportunity for students interested in sustainability consulting. However, it had its challenges. Moving forward, I hope that future teams can learn from our experience and take the necessary steps to set clear expectations, establish internal deadlines, and ensure equal participation from all team members.
