In this assignment, I wanted to reflect on how relevant projects can provide motivation to work. As the weeks' progress, the projects get more exciting. In our last conversation with our client, we presented our preliminary findings from our research. Our research focused on how gender equality indicators are incorporated into sustainable and green bonds. It further explored the debt market of emerging economies and analyzed opportunities for them to issue bonds to find gender-targeted activities. After the first research phase, I realized how relevant the topic of our research is in the current investment landscape. Particularly with the focus on ESG investments, incorporating gender indicators in debt instruments is currently being explored by several development financial institutions. This awareness of the growing interest in the topic has really made this research much more interesting for us. For me personally, it was interesting to learn how several institutions have been thinking about mainstreaming gender in social impact bonds but have not created any solid framework. Given that this is a new and growing topic, there is an excitement in doing something new and providing a very useful deliverable to the client which can then be further build upon in the future. However, this also creates challenges for the team since we are drawing from different frameworks to design a benchmark using a testing and trial method. As the research progresses, the group finds that there is so much information and context that is required to be explained but we are also faced with time and resource constraints. Therefore, in reflection, I find myself more intrigued by the topic and have learned so much. Given that this is a fairly new concept in the investment space, it really motivates me to put in more research to ensure that the deliverable will be useful to others looking to incorporate gender in their financial instruments.
