I've always been quite intimidated by the prospect of consulting for a client. Consulting as a practice is both vague and multifaceted—with no one person who can really explain the practice outside of the constant development and use of slide decks. For those of us who have always been curious about what its really like working with a client on helping solve a particular issue—this class offers a perfect opportunity to dip our toes in the water and see if maybe this practice is for you.

My background comprises of sustainability policy and ESG reporting—but I do lack the finance background that many of my peers hold. For my specific project however, it's playing to my strengths and background—I get to research specific topics for a ESG reporting framework's newly created standards. So far it's been a slow but steady start, our client's are busy people with few on their team to help out. However, we are getting started on the project ourselves and setting ourselves up for success. As a group we are getting to know one another's strengths and weaknesses to ensure that we are most efficiently tackling the project at hand. So far I have faith in us as a group—our combined backgrounds and experiences pretty perfectly match up to the requirements of this project and I believe we are likely going to be successful in our project and have a good final deliverable that hopefully can be used by our clients as they roll out their new standards and begin to help companies implement them.
