Navigating Challenges, Embracing Learning

As we conclude our course, I would like to share some reflections on the past few months.
This course presented its challenges, but it provided me with the opportunity to delve into a subject matter I was not familiar with. I thoroughly enjoy learning through hands-on experience, and the project I was assigned to certainly facilitated that. We had the opportunity to adopt the role of consultants, and due to the nature of our task, we enjoyed considerable freedom in shaping the project’s development. This allowed us to generate creative solutions and learn how to think as a cohesive team, leveraging each of our skills. At the same time, there were instances where we encountered delays and experienced some frustration, as the work did not advance as rapidly as we desired or anticipated.
One of the most challenging aspects of this experience was managing the workload. When our client presented us with the deliverable, our team had no prior understanding of the time and effort required to bring it to fruition. We dealt with a substantial amount of data, and the research component of our project demanded meticulous attention. While not inherently difficult, it proved to be exceedingly time-consuming and repetitive. It's fair to say that collecting data is not as enjoyable as analyzing it.
Nevertheless, I find myself satisfied with our final product. Our analysis has generated a rational, data-supported result despite some limitations. It was particularly exciting to witness the data analysis yielding the anticipated results. Admittedly, our expectations were speculative, given that we had no idea about the outcome at the project's inception. Moreover, as someone who aspires to work in corporate sustainability, I'm also relieved about the result; we demonstrated a correlation, albeit weak, between ESG-related remuneration metrics and companies' sustainability performance.
One regret I have is not being able to establish a closer relationship with our client. Various factors contributed to this, including geographic distance, differing time zones, and conflicting schedules. In my previous work, I took pride in building strong relationships with clients, and I wish we could have achieved the same in this instance. Nevertheless, I gained valuable insights from the information the client shared with us about their work, which was unfamiliar to me. Overall, I believe my team successfully accomplished its task despite numerous logistical and methodological challenges.
Joining this class has been a rewarding experience, and I'm genuinely glad to have been a part of it. All projects undertaken by my classmates were notably interesting, and each team presented impressive deliverables to their respective clients. Witnessing the diverse and innovative approaches taken by my peers has further enriched my learning journey. I highly recommend that students interested in pursuing careers in consulting or corporate sustainability consider taking this course.
