As this semester draws to a close, it's time to wrap up our sustainable investing project and reflect on the comprehensive journey we have undertaken. From initial explorations to deep dives into value chain, impact quantification and governmental collaborations, our understanding of our client's operations and its interplay with the government has deepened.
Over the course of the semester, we have forged a valuable connection with our client, gaining an intimate understanding of the complexities and meaning of their work. Particularly during our last meeting, we acquired new and rich information about the current state of their collaborations with the government and the quantifiable impacts of their efforts. This has been instrumental in enhancing our ability to analyze the impact generated by this innovative leather company and frame our recommendations more effectively. This deepened understanding enabled us to trace where value is created throughout the leather company's operational process, from sourcing invasive species to transforming them into high-quality sustainable leathers. We were able to identify key stages in the value chain where our client's interventions drive environmental and economic impacts. Additionally, this insight gave us a clear perspective on how our client could expand their efforts in collaboration with governmental entities.
In this final phase, our main challenge lies in synthesizing our research findings into a cohesive narrative. Our research was structured around three key areas: benefits and potential impacts of our client's approach, their value chain, and development of partnership with the government. Crafting an analytical narrative that not only presents our research but also connects these elements in a clear and compelling manner is crucial. When developing this final deliverable, our professor's advice really impressed me. She introduced us to three analysis means and told us to immerse ourselves in the perspective of our client. Such an immersive perspective is critical when making strategic recommendations that are both actionable and aligned with the client’s goals.
This process has taught us the importance of seeing ourselves as part of the solution, and I also learned that effective consultancy may involve a symbiotic relationship where our insights and strategies become intertwined with the client's operational realities. This experience has not only broadened my understanding of sustainable business practices but has also challenged our to think critically about the scalability and long-term viability of environmental initiatives.
Reflecting on this entire experience, this journey is both challenging and literally worthwhile. This project was demanding, not only in its scope but also in the depth of understanding it required. I learned a lot from our peers and still had a lot to learn, and encountered some moments when my lack of specific knowledge left me feeling lost and doubting whether I was suitable and prepared for this project. Moreover, there is great difference between merely conducting research and thinking from a consultant’s perspective.
Despite these difficulties, I'm genuinely delighted that we could assist our client in making a positive impact. This experience has not only deepened my commitment to sustainable practices, but also inspired me to pursue further knowledge and skills to continue contribute to the society around us.
