As our consulting project reaches its conclusion, I’ve taken some time to reflect on the journey, one that has not only pushed my boundaries but also deeply enriched my consulting skill set. In the final stretch of the project, we focused on a particularly challenging task: evaluating market opportunities in Latin America, a region unfamiliar to both our team and our client.

Despite the initial uncertainty, we didn’t start from scratch. Instead, we leaned on a structured market evaluation framework we had developed earlier in the project. This framework, which included factors such as regulatory openness, data transparency, and financial trading mechanisms, served as a compass that guided our research. By applying a consistent, analytical lens, we were able to assess various countries and ultimately identified Mexico as a promising potential market. This was a turning point. It demonstrated how structure and transferable methods can help navigate completely new fields. It also reminded me that consulting isn’t about knowing everything at the outset—it’s about how you approach the unknown. This process strengthened my confidence in applying a strategic mindset and taught me how to bring clarity to ambiguity.

Beyond research, we wanted to ensure that our insights translated into action. That’s why we developed a go-to-market strategy, bridging the gap between identifying an opportunity and building a practical entry plan. This provided a full arc to our engagement, from high-level market analysis to implementation planning. Creating this kind of strategic continuity was deeply rewarding and a testament to the value of combining analytical work with forward-looking execution.

In addition to our core deliverables, we also helped the client frame a sustainable investing thesis, a perspective that connects their work to broader goals in energy transition. We highlighted how their activities could improve market efficiency and forecasting accuracy, help manage volatility from renewable integration, guide resource allocation, and ultimately make power markets function better to attract sustainable investment. This created a valuable narrative loop that ties technical work to long-term impact. This process also taught me that consulting is not only about addressing client needs—it’s about seeing the bigger picture and creating value beyond the brief. By applying our expertise to expand the scope of the project, we helped surface strategic angles that may not have been obvious at the outset.

As I wrap up this final blog post, I’m filled with gratitude—for the opportunity to learn by doing, for the chance to work with such a driven team, and for the insights gained from professors, TAs, and guest speakers throughout the semester. I enrolled in this course because I’m passionate about consulting and eager to apply my interests in energy transition and sustainable investing to real-world problems. Looking back, the experience has exceeded all my expectations. I’ve gained a much deeper understanding of electricity markets, learned how to design and execute a market entry strategy, and witnessed how sustainability can be interwoven into business decisions to drive both purpose and performance. Consulting, I’ve learned, is rarely a straight line. It involves frequent recalibration, moments of confusion, and ongoing iteration. But with a clear structure and a collaborative mindset, we were able to navigate each challenge and move the project forward. The power of communication and teamwork became especially clear—these were the tools that turned obstacles into breakthroughs.

The lessons I’ve learned will stay with me, from technical analysis to strategic thinking, from problem-solving to storytelling. And I know I’ll continue to draw on them in my future career. It’s been an honour to take part in this journey, and I’m incredibly thankful for everyone who made it possible!
